Democrats Ban War On Terror

Patriotism questioned ...

Via Military Times:

The House Armed Services Committee is banishing the global war on terror from the 2008 defense budget.

This is not because the war has been won, lost or even called off, but because the committee’s Democratic leadership doesn’t like the phrase.

They aren't just banning war on terror, but they are rejecting the notion that the war on terror might take a long time.

Also banned is the phrase the “long war,” which military officials began using last year as a way of acknowledging that military operations against terrorist states and organizations would not be wrapped up in a few years.

So they don't like the phrase "long war," but they are ok with "ongoing military operations throughout the world?"

In the spirit of a new, more open, and cooperative Congress that the Democrats promised us ... Republicans were not consulted about the changes.

Josh Holly, a spokesman for Rep. Duncan Hunter of California, the committee’s former chairman and now its senior Republican, said Republicans “were not consulted” about the change.

The article goes on to hit the real issue of why Democrats wasted time in doing this. They don't believe Iraq is a part of the War on Terror ... even though we are fighting at least three organized terrorist groups that have officially declared war on the US.
