Mexican Trucks To Be Monitored By Satelite

This will at least be of some comfort for you NAU folks out there.

Commercial trucks traveling to or from Mexico will be outfitted with a satellite tracking device to assuage fears that participants in a cross-border pilot program may not follow safety rules.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, or FMCSA, will spend $367,000 on 100 devices for trucks from the United States and Mexico to monitor them as they pick up and deliver loads, a spokeswoman said Tuesday.

The decision to require the installation of satellite-tracking technology was made after members of Congress questioned participants' compliance with U.S. safety and trade laws, said Melissa Mazzella DeLaney, an FMCSA spokeswoman.

So, It Turns Out The Border Patrol Isn't Supposed To Secure The Border

What would you say if I told you the Border Patrol wasn't supposed to prevent illegals from crossing into the United States?

What if I were to tell you that a Border Patrol agent confirmed that it was not the BP's job to do so?

You'd say I was nuts, right? Well, you'd be dead wrong.

LMT Online:

Border Patrol agents dont have the responsibility of apprehending illegal immigrants, Carlos X. Carrillo, chief patrol agent for the Laredo sector, said at a town hall meeting Wednesday."The Border Patrol is not equipped to stop illegal immigrants," Carrillo said, noting that illegal narcotics are also not on the agents priority list.

"The Border Patrol mission is not to do any of those things," he emphasized.

The Border Patrols mission is to keep the country safe from terrorist and terrorist weapons, he said. Carrillo added that when and if terrorists come into the country, the agents will be ready.

After the support the BP showed Ramos and Compean ... I bet you didn't expect that.

Funny thing is that the BP's mission statement disagrees with this guy.

Mexico Finally Apologizes to Miss USA For Behaving Like Asshats

Miss USA (Rachel Smith)

Remember when Miss USA was booed by Mexicans during the Miss Universe pageant?

Yeah, they finally got around to apologizing to her nearly three months later.

MSN:

A Mexican tourism official issued an apology for the jeers aimed at Miss USA in May during an international beauty contest in Mexico City.

Rachel Smith, the U.S. entrant into the Miss Universe competition, was booed by some of the audience after she slipped and fell during an evening-gown competition. Her fall and the audience reaction briefly attracted international attention.

Gabriel Szekely, chief of staff for Mexico's tourism department, wrote in a letter that he regretted the "unfortunate events" of the pageant.

"We understand the concern of the people of the United States about the incorrect behavior of a small group that attended the event," Szekely wrote. "We apologize for the inconvenience, and be sure that Miss Rachel Smith will always be welcome in Mexico."

Uh, I hate to break it to this guy but it was NOT a small group that booed Ms. Smith. It was damn near the whole audience, and that isn't counting all of the harassment she endured the whole time she was in Mexico both prior and post competition.

It was a nice try to assign blame to small fringe group of idiots rather than the very large number of Mexicans who behaved like the imbeciles they are though.

So why did Mexico finally apologize after all of this time? Was it that they've been having trouble sleeping at night? Could it have been a large number of good Mexicans writing letters, and making phone calls describing how embarrassed they were at the conduct of the countrymen? Of course not ... it was because two "homeless advocates" complained.

The letter was addressed to Los Angeles homeless activist Ted Hayes. It came after Hayes and a second activist, David Hernandez, complained to Ruben Beltran, the city's consul general of Mexico. It has been forwarded to Smith.

Well leave it to a couple of homeless advocates to get the job done. It is sad that it took the efforts of these two to get the Mexican government to behave better than their citizens, but I'm grateful for their effort.

In closing ... while a representative of Mexico's government said Ms. Smith is welcome in Mexico anytime ... the Mexican people made it clear that she is not. I would never set foot in that country again if I were her.

Justice: Duane 'Dog' Chapman Will Not Be Sent To Mexico

I appears that the long legal fight to prevent Chapman from being sent to a Mexican prison for capturing rapist Andrew Luster may be over ... with the Dog getting his man.

Fox News:

All criminal charges may have been dropped in Mexico against TV bounty hunter Duane "Dog" Chapman, his son and another member of his crew for capturing a convicted American rapist on the lam four years ago, TMZ reported Thursday.

A Mexican federal court had charged Chapman, 53, and the others with deprivation of liberty for seizing Andrew Luster, an heir to the Max Factor cosmetics fortune, in June 2003 in Puerto Vallarta.

Chapman was awaiting a possible extradition to Mexico and a criminal trial there. He faced four years in a Mexican jail if convicted.

The capture of Luster is what made Dog famous, and helped launch his TV show. Bounty hunting is illegal in Mexico, but the Mexican authorities were not taking Luster into custody. Since virtually everyone knew where Luster was in Mexico (he didn't hide) many believe he paid off the Mexican authorities to leave him alone. That is, until Dog dragged his ass across the border after issuing a public promise to do so.

This picture is from the Myspace page of the organizers

A few days ago I received an email from Americans 4 America identifying several local high schools here in Vegas that were planning to have student walkouts on March 30. Here is the Myspace page of the illegal supporters, and it is a national campaign. They call it the Brown Armband Campaign, and are celebrating César Chávez Day of Action.

Suck It Bank Of America

Finally some common sense in D.C.

WASHINGTON -- U.S. Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., introduced legislation Monday that would prevent illegal immigrants from receiving credit cards from American financial institutions.

B of A isn't to happy about it either.

Mexico Mad That Americans Are Crossing Border

This is rich ... REAL RICH!

I guess Americans went too far into Mexico for their liking ... 10 meters.

No big surprise ... the US caved.

Mexico's Congress has condemned what it says is a border violation by US workers building a controversial barrier between the two countries.

Legislators say workers and equipment building a section of the barrier have gone 10 metres (yards) into Mexico.

The alleged border violation comes ahead of a high-level meeting in the Canadian capital Ottawa.

US, Mexican and Canadian foreign ministers are to discuss border security and trade issues.

Mexican legislators said they had photographs and video, taken on Monday, of the workers and heavy-duty construction equipment that showed them about 10 metres inside Mexico near the border city of Agua Prieta and the town of Douglas, Arizona.

The Mexican Foreign Minister Patricia Espinosa said she had complained to the US authorities and that the men and equipment had been withdrawn.

Continental trade concerns

In a statement, the US Ambassador to Mexico Tony Garza said: "The US is sensitive to Mexican concerns... [and] has the deepest respect for the integrity of the sovereignty of Mexican soil".

He said US Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff had not been in the area of the alleged incursion and recent photographs of him welding a section of the fence had been taken in a different part of Arizona on the US side of the border.

The US says it is building 700 miles (1,125km) of fencing along its border with Mexico to stop illegal immigration.

Many Mexicans see the fence as offensive and say it will be ineffective and potentially cause more deaths in border crossings.

An estimated 1.2 million illegal immigrants were arrested in 2005 trying to cross into the US via the border states of Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California.

About 11 million Mexicans are thought to live in the US, more than six million of them illegally.

Later on Friday, US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is meeting her Canadian and Mexican counterparts - Peter Mackay and Patricia Espinosa - in Ottawa.

They are to discuss concerns that security measures put in place after the 11 September 2001 attacks on the US may hamper trade between the three countries.

The officials will also look at co-ordinating responses to emergencies such as a pandemic outbreak of avian flu.

Tony Garza's statement that we have the deepest respect for the sovereignty of Mexico is complete joke. While your at it Tony ... get some Mexican respect for ours.

Meanwhile ... we are allowing Mexicans to penetrate deeper into the US.
