So, Now John Edwards Is A Conservative On Immigration?

We all know that Edwards doesn't stand a snowball's chance in hell of winning the Democratic nomination. Mainly because he's a kook, and not a smart one either. However, he has latched onto the most important issue among 2008 voters ... immigration.

Most Americans support a hard-line stance on illegals, and Edwards has (up to this point) been the exact opposite of what the American people want on this issue.

We must remember that there is an election to win, and Edwards being himself hasn't been getting it done. So ... it's time for the tried-and-true Democrat strategy to gain ground in an election ... change yourself.

Huffington Post:

At the debate and on ABC's This Week this past Sunday, Edwards drew a distinction between himself and Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, saying he disagreed with New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer's proposal to grant drivers licenses to undocumented immigrants. Clinton backs the proposal as a way of solving crimes and promoting road safety.

Moreover, Edwards said that while states should have say over the issue until comprehensive reform can be passed, once reform is enacted, licenses should only be granted to those immigrants who are on the path to citizenship.

Now his base (Huffington Post, Daily Kos types) are not too happy with his complete reversal of his stance on illegals.

Edwards' stance contrasts sharply from what he advocated as the Democratic vice presidential candidate in 2004, when he was unequivocal in his support for issuing driver's licenses to the undocumented.

So how does a candidate who has embraced progressive stances on many critical issues from 2004 to 2008 shift conservative on immigration? The answer, some analysts say, lies in the political dynamics of Iowa, the first caucus state.

First off, I'd like to point out that Edwards' new stance on licenses is not a conservative position as is being stated in the quoted post. True it is more conservative than the typical liberal stance, but not quite conservative.

As for this being a tactic to win the all important Iowa ... it's more likely than not, very true.

I've been reading what some liberal bloggers have been saying about Edwards' turnaround, and they seem to miss the point. They are critical of Edwards because this new stance is "conservative", but that is not the issue. The crux is that Edwards, like Clinton, has decided that it is more important to lie to potential voters in order to win. I credit Obama for not having done this.

We now have two of the three Democrat front-runners who have openly shown you their willingness to tell you what you want to hear rather than what they believe. That should be far more upsetting to liberals than Edwards taking a "conservative" stance on an issue.

Sen. Craig Thomas Death Yields Some Interesting Blog Responses

I would like to wish the family of Sen. Craig Thomas well, and offer my condolences. As you all know I often look at the prominent liberal blogs to get their reactions to the deaths of Republicans. I've been more than fair in pointing out which sites were respectful, and which weren't. Typically, the comments at Huffington Post are the worst ... followed by the Daily Kos. This time, however, there has been some interesting responses to the Senator's death.

First off I would like to commend the posters at the Daily Kos this time around. All to often they are on the venom spewing end of these types of stories, but this time the response has been heart warming. Not only has the response from most of the Kos people been respectful towards the Senator's death, but they even turned against some Kos posters who did spew venom.

For instance ... DK poster Crestingwave posted the following:

I mean, I know were supposed to act like it, and we don't want Republican operatives or MSM lurkers to point to DK and go, "Hey look at these loony assholes," but you know, the guy had a good long life, and I think he hurt a lot of people during it. He voted repeatedly to protect drug companies and make drugs more expensive for seniors, thwarting substantive Medicare reform in every turn. He was a Bush rubber stamp who supported the torture and the stripping of our constitutional rights.

I'm not gonna piss on the guy's grave, but mourn? No. I'll probably sleep like a baby tonight.

Clearly inappropriate words for a man who has just passed away, and the other DK poster called him on it.

Here's a screen shot of the immediately following comments in response to Crestingwave:

The DK people then went on to have a very prudent discussion on the sad state of affairs when we look to see which party the deceased belonged to before we stop and pay respects.

All in all ... the Daily Kos people have been great in dealing with the passing of Sen. Craig Thomas, and I would like to thank them.

The Huffington Post closed the comments to the story of Sen. Thomas' death. HuffPo only closes the comments of a post when they are overwhelmingly abusive, but I have no evidence of the comments from HuffPo people this time around. It is, however, well document that HuffPo closes shop when the abuse is prevalent.

Rove Attacked By Students ... Guess What HuffPo Is Saying

At the time of this post there were 14 pages of comments on HuffPo ... nearly all spewing hate and ill wishes for Rove's safety. Funny thing is that they don't even know why they hate him.

Here's the first screen shot:

Here's the second:

And my personal favorite is highlighted:

Feel the love folks ... feel the love.

HuffPo Doesn't Disappoint

I told you earlier today that it was just a matter of time before HuffPo started attacking Tony Snow and his cancer, and they were preparing for the damage control. Not in the comments, but a poster to HuffPo is the one who didn't disapoint me today.

I admit my bias shows with these stories. I hear about Tony Snow and say to myself, well, stand up every day, lie to the American people at the behest of your dictator-esque boss and well, how could a cancer NOT grow in you. Work for Fox News, spinning the truth in to a billion knots and how can your gut not rot? I know, it’s terrible. I admit it. I don’t wish anyone harm, even Tony Snow. And I do hope he recovers or at least does what he feels is best and surrounds himself with friends and family for his journey. But in the back of my head there’s Justin Timberlake’s “What goes around, goes around, comes around, comes all the way back around, ya..”…

Now, I’ve been brutally honest above, and may have offended some, and for that I’m sorry. Again, I don’t want Tony Snow to suffer and die of cancer. But like many this morning, I had the thought.

The whole "I don't want Tony Snow to suffer" is a nice touch after saying that he got cancer because of his lying. Make sure you read the comments to see how people praise this guy for his courage in saying what needed to be said.

Tony Snow's Cancer Has Returned - HuffPo Does Damage Control

HuffPo is notorious for wishing Republicans to die, and they'll come under some heavy fire for it lately. Usually they don't remove comments unless the uproar is really loud. In anticipation of such a recurrence they have sought to preemptively conduct damage control.

We wish Tony Snow all the best.

Air America Offers To Host GOP Debate

This is too funny. Obviously Fox News and Air America are NOT comparable when it comes to their treatment of the two political parties. Nor do I think that Fox has had any problems with stealing money from children.

You can look at this one of two ways.

  1. The left is trying to bait the GOP into refusing to allow them to hold the debate so they can decry hypocrisy when the GOP refuses. That way they can counter the outrage for the NV Democratic party dropping the Fox debate, and proving how truly pathetic they are.
  2. Air America is hurting so bad for ratings that they are willing to cross over to the dark side for one night to actually gain an audience.

It's a win win situation for Air America. There are some holes in their plan however.

  • While the Democrats refuse to allow a right-leaning news outlet to hold their debate ... the GOP is allowing left-leaning news outlets to hold theirs (i.e. ABC, CBS, NBC etc).
  • If the GOP were to allow Air America to air the debate I doubt you would see 200,000+ signatures on a petition to shut down the debate.
  • While there would be several critics if the GOP accepts ... conservatives will take the high road. We will take a look and see approach and analyze how Air America handles it ... ready to pounce on any mistreatment.
  • The Fox debate and the NV Democratic party agreed to mutual terms. Anything that both sides didn't agree to ... didn't happen. It would be interesting to see how Air America behaves if the GOP disagrees with them on a particular term. Would they graciously negotiate, or would they attack the GOP on their airwaves?

There is another factor as well. None of the GOP candidates contribute to sites that call for the murder and deaths of Democrats, or reporters. Nor do any GOP candidates contribute to sites that proclaim to 'own' the Republican party as MoveOn and DailyKos claim to own the Democratic party.

The bottom line is that Reid, Hillary, and others contribute to these sites. They are saying that Ailes' comments about Obama are the reason for dropping the Fox debate, but that is a lie. Ailes' joke was far more insulting to Bush than Obama, and is certainly less offensive than what many Dems have said about Obama by calling him Osama. Truth is that the liberal blogs do own the DNC (at least in NV), and have been having steady success in forcing an end to the debate.

This is from our local paper: the Review Journal:

Danny Coyle, a MoveOn.org member who serves on the Executive Board of the Carson City Democratic Central Committee, yesterday offered a resolution calling on the state party to drop Fox, and it passed overwhelmingly among the grassroots Democrats in attendance.

Still think MoveOn doesn't own the NV Democrats?

The DNC leadership has been running around the country saying that they need people to cross over from the right to win in 2008. Then they allowed that opportunity to be killed by kook radicals. Nevada is going to be extremely important in 2008, and Hillary's activities here prove it. Now it will be that much more difficult for the DNC to get NV's votes.

Update:

Looks like Harry Reid axed the debate when is Kos poll numbers went down.

Huffington Post Wishes For Another Republican To Die

Remember the vile things said about Rep. Norwood? That wasn't the first time HuffPo advocated the murder and/or death of a Republican, and it wasn't the last.

As word spread about the attempted assassination of VP Dick Cheney HuffPo posters sprung into action to let the world know how sad they were that the attack wasn't successful.

With Rep. Norwood ... the Democratic Underground chose to conduct themselves honorably in their mentions of Norwood. Something that HuffPo, and Daily Kos refused to do.

Not this time.
