Did Chris Benoit Murder His Family, Or Was He Murdered?

This is an interesting take on the Benoit murders. Rev. Johnny Lee Clary (former wrestling champion) has hypothesized that Benoit and his family was murdered by Kevin Sullivan ... Nancy's ex.

Rev. Johnny Lee Clary:

The tragic deaths of Chris Benoit and his wife Nancy and son Daniel have shocked the wrestling world. The police are calling it a double-murder-suicide, but is it really? Let’s look at some facts. It has been 10 years exactly since Nancy divorced Kevin Sullivan to marry Chris Benoit. In the 1980’s Sullivan, along with his then-wife Nancy, were running a gimmick in wrestling of how they were Satanists, and Nancy was known as “The Fallen Angel.” She later became known as “Woman.” The trouble with the Satanists gimmick was it was for real, and was not a work, or fake. In the 1990’s Kevin Sullivan was the booker for WCW, and he scripted his wife Nancy into having an affair with Chris Benoit who was a member of the Four Horsemen. This made for a good angle, except, the acting became reality as Chris and Nancy actually fell in love and Nancy divorced Sullivan to marry Benoit.

Benoit left the WCW to go to work for the WWE which was then known as the WWF. It is a fact that Sullivan threatened Benoit and told him he would kill him. Yes, that was 10 years ago, but Kevin Sullivan is no dummy. He is known for being a calculating, cold-hearted individual. Today, according to a source close to me, Kevin Sullivan is a high ranking member of the Satanic Church. The police need to consider the possibility that Sullivan carried out these gruesome murders in order to have his revenge, which is what Satanists live for. He could have entered the home, with an accomplice or accomplices and held the Benoit’s at gunpoint, Sullivan could have then bound up Nancy, and made Benoit and his son watch as he strangled the life out of her. Then the next day after making Benoit and his son spend the day in agony, murdered Benoit’s little boy because of his hatred for the offspring of Benoit and Nancy. Then he could have made Benoit wait an entire day before killing him to by hanging him in the basement.

Hmmm ... interesting to say the least. I decided to check some of this out, and discovered a few things myself.

Aside from Nancy leaving Sullivan to be with Benoit ... Sullivan lost his job because of Benoit just a few short years ago.

According to Wikipedia (I know, but give me a break):

Sullivan is among those blamed for the 2000 departure of Chris Benoit, Dean Malenko, Eddie Guerrero and Perry Saturn from WCW, though by no direct action of his own. After the departure of Eric Bischoff and Vince Russo, the resulting chaos led to Sullivan's promotion to head booker. This move infuriated a number of WCW wrestlers, given Sullivan's history of professional rivalries (notably Benoit) and poor decisions. Sullivan booked Benoit to win the WCW title at Souled Out 2000 in a desperate attempt to quell the uprising, but Benoit, Malenko, Guererro and Saturn would quit the night after, immediately signing with the WWF. Sullivan would be fired before WCW's sale in 2001.

Could this whole thing be a real life f--ked up wrestling storyline?

There is also another death that needs to be looked at as well. Sherri Martel was found dead just days before Benoit, and she was also associated with Sullivan. Her death is being treated as suspicious.

Here's the time line of the events leading to the Benoit family's demise.

Some have thought of this "theory" but it is highly unlikely. Kevin Sullivan's character was a twisted, violent f@ck, not the actual guy playing him. He does NOT belong to a satanic church and is one of the funniest, coolest, best minds in wrestling. Give us a break, Sullivan and his current wife recently had a child.

I also thought this is what happened and I seriously could see it happening. Everyone close to benoit said he loved his wife and kids and I truly believe that.think about it..who were the people sullivan hated the most?: Pillman, Eddie, Benoit, Nancy and probably even Daniel...and they're all dead, perhaps witch craft could be involved in this..ok maybe i'm way over my head with this one. If Sullivan did do it he commited the perfect murder, it all does make sense and I originally thought this untill I found out benoit hang himself.

I don't think that's what happened. it's all sounds so far fetched and bit like clutching at straws to me.
Yes Chris did love his kids but so did all the other parents that did the whole murder suicide thing. see they want to end it they've had enough but they can't bare leaving the children behind... No they are not monsters just people on the edge. Something just snaps in their heads. It doesn't matter if they've they best job in the world, if they're depressed nothing matters. THe one thing that does confuse me slightly is the whole three day thing, usually if they do it it's done in the one day I would've thought.

I think it was murder. The extended time period involved, the fact that another woman was killed one week previous, the text messages. I hate the sport, but I love a good mystery. Should be interesting what forensic evidence turns up. Stay tuned, it's gonna be interesting.

It would be nice if it was murder. The idea is a bit far fetched but not impossible. IF someone outside the home did it, I'd say it is more likely a drug/money dispute. I can't see Kevin Sullivan doing this. If I was Kevin Sullivan, I'd sue that preacher's ass for making suck accusations without proof. I doubt Kevin Sullivan would be a suspect, if in fact, it was an outside murder. I met Sullivan in a strip club back in the late 90's. The guy seemed cool as hell and even bought my friends and me a round of beers. I'm sure he may have threatened to kill Benoit. For heaven's sake, Chris took his wife. Im sure he was pissed, but that was 10 years ago. This "reverend" calling Sullivan a high ranking Satanist is just typical of the "Satanic Panic" crowd, and the same mentality that led to witch hunts of just a couple hundred years ago. IMO, a true man of God would not make such irresponsible, publicity seeking claims without proof. Shame on you, you hypocrite!!!

Yes, it should be interesting as the evidence continues to come forward. However, there is no real evidence that Sherri Martel was murdered. She allegedly collapsed on her mom's porch while having coffee. All indications are that it was an overdose, which isn't hard to believe considering her life long battle with substance abuse.

1.) There was no suicide note, 2.) No domestic violence ever recorded, Just Divorce papers Filed and then Dropped 3.) Chris Benoit took out a new life insurance policy, which listed his ex-wife and oldest child David, 14, and Megan, 10, as the beneficiaries. Nancy apparently confronted Chris about it and he refused to change it. Nancy also found out that Chris Benoit set up a new bank account in the name of his ex-wife in Edmonton. 4.) Hulk Hogan formally WCW star claims Chris Benoit's deceased wife, Nancy. "She was into devil-worship stuff. It was part of her [wrestling] character, but [she was] somebody who gets so close to their character, someone who gets into their character too much. Sometimes these people believe their own publicity." 5.) Chris Benoit recently had set up a second address for mailing purposes. 6.) Chris Benoit's profile entry on the Wikipedia website was changed to note that he missed the WWE Vengeance pay-per-view, "due to personal issues, stemming from the death of his wife Nancy" 14 hours before the Benoit family was found dead. 7.) McMahon cautions against 'rush to judgment' in Benoit case. (Then why is he doing what he asked us not to do? by removing all benoit's info off of WWE when he doesn't know the truth either?) 8.) a year ago he became paranoid and believed he was being followed. He wouldn't let Nancy leave the house because he believed "someone was out to get them." (Could Kevin Sullivan been the someone?) 9.) a Bible was placed near each murder victim. (Could this be because Chris Benoit turned religious with Eddie, and Kevin Sullivan was Santanic?) 10.) no attempt to hide the bodies. (Could this be because someone wanted it to look like a murder suicide?) 11.) It is well known that Benoit was not a drinker of alcohol ( could the beer cans and wine bottle be props) 12.) "Roid Rage" doesn't last 48-72 hours people. 13.) If Chris Benoit (or any person) was gonna kill his whole family and his self why wait 3 days? and look at the time periods? someone was there and did this as torture, and who else has a motive to do this ... Kevin Sullivan... 14.) He was due to win the only title he had never won at the pay-per view, and he doesn't show up? come on. Fayetteville police department need to get off there butts and do this properly... If it wasn't Kevin Sullivan then it was someone else. But all of the proof is showing it was not Benoit. 15.) Isn't it funny that Sensatial Sherri Martel died the same night as Nancy Benoit and she was hooked in with Kevin Sullivan (did she know something and had to be kept quite?) and the former tag team partner was found dead in his bed (Biff Wellington) these doen't seem weird to anyone? 16.) Chris Benoit was at the doctors office on friday... witnesses said he was polite, nice, friendly, smiling, soft spoken, posed for picture, signed autograph... (this doesn't sound like a man going home to kill his wife the same night... )
17.)It is well known he would always take a flight home if only for an hour or two just to spend time with his family before going on to the next show... (this would give reason for him being there before the pay-per-view event also would go with the theory of him being peronoid that some one was out to get them....)

Chris Benoit was scheduled to appear at the WWE Smackdown/ ECW live event in Beaumont, Texas

3:30pm
A co-worker received a voice message from Benoit. The message from Benoit stated he missed his flight and over slept and would be late to the WWE Live Event. The co-worker called Benoit back, Benoit confirmed everything he said in his voice message and sounded tired and groggy. Benoit then stated, "I love you". The co-worker stated that it was "out of context." (Hmmm could he have been giving him a warning something was wrong, maybe someone was there killing them one by one)

3:42pm
The same co-worker was concerned with Benoit's tone and demeanor and called Benoit for a second time. Benoit did not answer the call and the co-worker left a message stating "just call me back." (Hmmm another sign somthing wasn't right)

3:44pm
Benoit called the co-worker back stating he didn't answer the call because he was on the phone with Delta changing his flight. Benoit stated he had a real stressful day due to Nancy and Daniel being sick with food poisoning. They discussed travel plans for the WWE Tour of Texas with Benoit still sounding groggy at this point according to the co-worker. ( hmmmm someone forcing him to call back so no one would call police so they can finish the job)

4:30pm
A co-worker who consistently travels with Benoit, called Benoit from outside Houston airport and Benoit answered. Benoit told the co-worker that Nancy was throwing up blood and that Daniel was also throwing up. Benoit thought they had food poisoning. Benoit stated he changed his flight and he would be arriving into Houston at 6:30pm. Benoit told the co-worker to drive onto the WWE event. (Hmmm and no one is still reading between the lines here)

5:35pm
Benoit called WWE Talent Relations stating that his son was throwing up and that he and Nancy were in the hospital with their son, and that Benoit would be taking a later flight into Houston, landing late, but would make the WWE live event in Beaumont. ( ok come on people ... first his wife and son where sick, now him and his wife took his son to the hospital?)

6:10pm
A representative of Talent Relations called Benoit. The representative from Talent Relations asked Benoit what time Benoit was getting into Beaumont. Benoit responded he was leaving Atlanta at 9:20pm Eastern time arriving into Houston at 9:24pm Central time. The representative from Talent Relations advised Benoit that it would be too late to make the WWE live event in Beaumont. Benoit apologized citing he had a family emergency. The representative from Talent Relations suggested to Benoit that instead of going to the WWE live event in Beaumont, Benoit should take the flight to Houston, rest up and be ready for the Vengeance Pay-Per-View event. (Oh come on ... obviously someone is there and he is trying to send a message something is wrong)

6:13pm
The representative from Talent Relations called Benoit to reconfirm the travel plans with no answer from Benoit. The representative from Talent Relations left a voice message to take the flight and rest up. (OMG this is the perfect time to call the police)

WWE made several attempts to contact Benoit via phone and text messages, as well as, the local hospitals in the Atlanta area. As of 11:00 pm Sunday night there was no contact made with Benoit. ( Now they decide to start calling people... and if benoit did do this and these were his friends then why not say I am sorry or forgive me or something..... not send them his address that they already know....NO! cause someone was there murdered them and sent the text messages so they would be found, to make it look like a double murder/ suicide, DUH!!!!!)

I am no CSI or Profiler But come on people it is right there in your face... A Victim being accused ..... The police need to do their jobs.

12:30pm
WWE was notified of text messages sent to the two co-workers.

12:45pm
WWE contacted the Fayetteville County Sheriff's office and requested them to go to Benoit's
residence

4:00pm
WWE received a call from the Fayetteville County Sheriff's office, advising that they entered
the house of Benoit and found 3 deceased bodies (a male, a female and a child). The Fayetteville Sheriff's office has secured the house as a "major crime scene" and that the Fayetteville County Sheriff's Office had no further information.

This all could have been prevented if they would have paid attention to his warning signs that someone was killing them......

There are a lot of People who also sees things the way I do... and I am sure there are many more people who also do... just not the right people...

Look, Benoit was a man who was devoted to respect...why would you work your entire career earning wht you think to be most precious(respect)and then in one move erase it all? I grew up watching Benoit and have been on a roller coaster ever since this tragedy occured. First he did it, then he didn't, now he's on steroids, then he's on viagra. I mean come on they mentioned his Viagra. The media has made sure this case will never be solved. They have twisted every inch of this case into a three ring circus. In the first ring you have "Roid Rage." Not for three days, these dumbshits apparently haven't done their homework. Second ring, you have this concussion thing...look I understand that three NFL stars have had the same thing and then killed themselves. THEY DIDN'T KILL THEIR FAMILIES THOUGH. The third ring is the one I personally believe in, the outside murderer. There is no way that a man of integrity and respect would kill the most precious piece of his life. I loved Chris Benoit as an in-ring performer and thats what we neglect now. As a man, if he did this, he failed. But as a competitor and performer, he is still the Crippler to me. Don't forget about The Shooter, The Rabid Wolverine, The Pegasus Kid, the greatest technical wrestler to ever live in that ring. I will continue to hope that his legacy isn't extinguished. The WWE should also be ashamed...they have cut ties to a WWE SUPERSTAR, instead of cutting ties with Chris Benoit the man.

It's almost a year later, has there been any more information on what happened in this case?

I didn't realize there was so much mayhem connected with Kevin Sullivan. So many people who crossed him are now dead.

Specifically to Chris Benoit's situation, it was strange that he did what he did, over the course of three days. I haven't seen any information on the internet about the crime scenes, or if other DNA might have been found at the scene. Perhaps the police just assumed it was a murder-suicide and left it at that?

Binding the wife's hands and feet sounds like the work of a calculated killer, not someone flying off in a rage. Had this been a sudden outburst, she would have probably just been beaten to death. Not methodically bound and then strangled. The towel around her body may have been used to disguise the size of the person on her back? I know this all sounds circumstantial, but it just appears the killer didn't do this in the heat of passion, as some might assume from 'roid rage, but this was a meticulous, well planned out hit.
If there is any further details on this case beyond the information printed back in June 2007, I'd like to hear it.

Also, xanax was found in all three person's bodies. If Benoit was going on a rage, why would he take the time to give it to his wife and kid? Xanax is a sedative, so someone holding them at gun point might have drugged them up so they wouldn't put up as much of a struggle.

this may sound weird but it may be possible that benoit's wife and son were murdered, then benoit later discovered the bodies and hung himself

Somewhere between the lines always lays the truth (take 9/11 for example). It's been ridiculously obvious from day one that there is no way this was Benoit's doing.

Found This Timeline...It Doesn't Quite Add Up. What Do You Guys Think?

Friday, June 22, 8 p.m. - Midnight: The arguments come to a violent end when Benoit physically attacks his wife. The investigators claim he binds her feet and wrists, puts his knee in her back and strangles her with a cable, jerking her head upward. The beefy wrestler leaves her downstairs on the living room floor, wrapped in a towel, with her head in a pool of blood. Benoit places a Bible beside her lifeless body.

Saturday, Midnight – 3:30 p.m.: A distraught Benoit, known to friends as a gentle, loving man, downs beer and painkillers and attempts to keep his son occupied and away from his wife’s body.

3:30 p.m.: A co-worker receives a voice message from Benoit saying he had overslept, missed his flight and would be late to a World Wrestling Entertainment live event in Beaumont, Texas, that night. The co-worker calls Benoit back and finds him groggy. Out of the blue, Benoit blurts: "I love you."

***

Still on Saturday 3:44 p.m. – 11 p.m.: Benoit calls back saying he had a stressful day due to Nancy and Daniel being sick with food poisoning, speaks to another co-worker and says family is throwing up from food poisoning. Benoit calls WWE Talent Relations saying he and wife Nancy are in the hospital with their ill son. He continues to drink, keeping his son upstairs.

11 p.m. – 3:58 a.m.: Benoit kills Daniel with a wrestling chokehold in the boy's upstairs bed. He places a Bible by the body. Benoit sends a series of cryptic text messages to WWE officials, including several with his street address.

4:30 a.m.: Benoit kills himself by wrapping a cord around his neck that is attached to a weight machine. He releases the weights which choke the life out of his powerful body.

***

On Monday, after being contacted by the WWE, authorities discover the Benoit family.
