One person is dead after an explosion near Grand Central Station.
Fire and emergency crews responded to the scene of a steam pipe explosion in Manhattan on Wednesday during the evening rush hour, police said.
The NYPD says a steam pipe exploded at 6:10 p.m. People were seen running from the scene, screaming and shouting amid an enormous roaring sound and a plume of steam and flying rubble. It caused brief panic about another terror attack. New York Police Department spokesman Paul Browne said it was not terrorism related.
Before we all start jumping to conclusions about this actually being an attack ... remember that this has happened before.
