Finally A Decision All Americans Should Be Proud Of ... Bush Spares Libby

President Bush spared Libby from prison today, but Armitage still goes free.

All Americans should be proud of this move by the President. Of course, that isn't the case because many out there (some running for president) are ok with the legal system of this country manufacturing an investigation to entrap someone, and send them to prison for not committing a crime.

The Libby case is no different from me completely making up a story that Bill Clinton ordered men to break into the GOP headquarters, and steal documents. Then asking Hillary about it, and convicting her for lying to me by saying she didn't know anything. There never was a crime committed by Clinton (of that nature), and it should be illegal to launch an investigation based upon a lie in order to catch someone in a lie.

For a DA to know who leaked Plame's name (Armitage), but still launch an investigation into who leaked the name while asking the real leaker to keep his mouth shut is an abuse of the legal system in the highest degree.

AP:

President Bush commuted the sentence of former White House aide I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby on Monday, sparing him from a 2 1/2-year prison term that Bush said was excessive. Bush's move came hours after a federal appeals panel ruled Libby could not delay his prison term in the CIA leak case.

That meant Libby was likely to have to report to prison soon and put new pressure on the president, who had been sidestepping calls by Libby's allies to pardon the former chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney.

President Bush only commuted the prison sentence. The conviction still stands, and Libby will have the opportunity to win his appeal (which is likely).

If anyone belongs in prison it's Richard Armitage, but that is still a stretch because Plame was NOT covert. Therefore, leaking her name was no violation. Patrick Fitzgerald is the real criminal here, and we should all be afraid that a DA can go after someone by literally withholding evidence, and manufacturing a case.

Obama released a statement about Libby on his site today.

Barack Obama today released the following statement on President Bush's decision to commute the sentence of Scooter Libby.

"This decision to commute the sentence of a man who compromised our national security cements the legacy of an Administration characterized by a politics of cynicism and division, one that has consistently placed itself and its ideology above the law. This is exactly the kind of politics we must change so we can begin restoring the American people's faith in a government that puts the country's progress ahead of the bitter partisanship of recent years."

It's pretty damn scary to see that a candidate for the oval office would support an abuse of our legal system like this.
