Protests Against US In Iraq Prove US Effort A Success

The anti-war fruit spin machine is all over this today without telling you the real story. Yes there was a large protest by Shia Muslims to tell the US to get out of Iraq. Was this a majority of the population ... no. Is it significant ... yes.

While there was a protest of the US in Iraq this weekend it did show the success the coalition has been having since the invasion. A protest like this would not have been allowed under Saddam (unless he organized it), and it wouldn't be allowed if the coalition were to fail.

Via Defenslink:

Between 5,000 and 7,000 Iraqis are participating in peaceful anti-U.S. demonstrations in the Iraqi holy city of Najaf, Navy Rear Adm. Mark I. Fox, spokesman for Multinational Force Iraq, told reporters in Baghdad.

“That is their right in the new Iraq,” Fox said. “And, it’s only fair, however, to note that they exercise that right because coalition forces liberated them from a tyrannical, barbaric regime that would never have permitted such freedom of expression.”

Many Iraqis don't even realize it, but they keep practicing freedom every day. They have their own version of American Idol, they vote, women go to school, women hold public office, they have free enterprise (there economy is thriving), they have free press, and they are allowed to peaceably assemble.

I wonder how they would feel if tomorrow they weren't allowed to protest?

that is shitty logic, they did not want that freedom in the first place, that might be something an american would have wanted so you think its good for them, but for people who kill each other brutally and dont respect their women, i dont think they care

its simply showing that they are going to do whatever it takes to get you out, even if it requires them to unite and protest

5-7000 Mahdi Army protesters under the direction of Sadr shouldn't be taken seriously. The statement you made about them not wanting freedom in the first place is laughable. I was in the service, and dealt with the Iraqis. I've also dated an Iraqi girl who's family fled Saddam. When you know these people, and talk to them, your perspective will change.
